After receiving a donation of cord blood, the unit undergoes a rigorous series of tests to ensure quality before it is eligible for placement on donor registries.
In cases where a unit is not eligible for an unrelated transplant, it may still be suitable for research purposes in pursuit of finding cures for many life-threatening diseases.
